Vickerstock are currently working on behalf of our market leading Food Manufacturing Client to recruit for a Materials Scheduler to join their team in the County Down Area

As Materials Scheduler you will be responsible for scheduling materials for the Newtownards site through the control of the inflows of assigned raw materials and packaging in line with site demands. You will liaise closely with the Planning department to ensure production demands are met and that all suppliers meet ISO demands and legal Requirements

Your new role as a Materials Scheduler

  • Review outputs from the MRP system and place orders with suppliers for packaging and raw materials
  • Expedite raw materials and packing items in line with production demand
  • Ensure movement of transfer orders is timely to meet other site's production requirements through MRP output
  • Notify the Purchasing Manager and planner of any major supply issues that may affect the production program
  • Liaise with the Planning department to ensure the manufacturing plan is met and notify any potential short falls or difficulties in supply
  • Ensure packaging effectivity dates are correct through use of ERP system and specification database and by liaising with the Marketing and Planning departments
  • Assist in the purchase of minor buying portfolios under direction from Buyers as required
  • Manage, maintain and report the status of commodity contracted items to the Buyers on a monthly basis
  • Monitor stock levels and seek to minimise write offs
  • Be involved in Project work under the direction of the Buyers
  • Aid other departments with respect to pricing queries or costings
  • Liaise closely with other Material Schedulers and work with and support other members of the Purchasing team
  • Support and input into monthly departmental reports
  • Ensure compliance with audit standards and procedures to achieve accreditation and ongoing compliance certification
  • Ensure alignment with the Foodservice core objectives
  • Assist in Project Advance as required and in the implementation of SAP across the entire business
  • Develop own performance by completing relevant learning and development activities
  • Interface and collaborate with all key functions of the business to seek continuous improvement
  • Continue to foster relationships with all the key contacts in Food ingredients
  • Resolve all invoice queries and pass to the Finance department for payment
  • Prepared to be flexible with working hours to suit business requirements. This would include attending meetings at other Lakeland sites if required which could be at short notice to assist in resolution of supplier issues.
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others, ensuring compliance with safety regulations in area of responsibility, in line with all relevant Health and Safety legislation
  • Responsible for own compliance with the Company's Data Protecon Policy and Data Retention Process
  • Provide cover in Buyer's absence

What you will need to succeed as a Materials Scheduler


  • Educated to A Level standard or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a purchasing role and working experience of an MRP system
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel (extensive spreadsheet and data analysis skills)
  • Proactive in approach to work with the drive to complete assignments on time
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Logical thinker with the ability to diagnose problems and implement solutions
  • Tenacious, organised, with the ability to prioritise workload and responsibilities
  • High level of flexibility within a fast paced environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines, actively influence and motivate others


  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing Diploma OR Working or prepared to work towards Chartered Institute of Purchasing Diploma
  • Intermediate Excel qualification
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of BRC/ISO (or other relevant audit standards)
  • Experience using SAP MRP system
