Vickerstock are currently working on behalf of our marketing leading and long-established Food Manufacturing Client to recruit for a Lab Technician to join their team in Coleraine.

As the successful Lab Technician, you will be responsible for the sampling, testing and recording of products at various stages of the production process. You will perform a key role ensuring all our products not only comply with legal standards but also meet our company's and customers' high-quality standards.

Your new role as a Lab Technician

  • Quality control of production process i.e. finished product testing.
  • Sample testing including for butterfat, titratable acidity, freezing point, antibiotics, total solids, pH, salt, moisture etc
  • Daily equipment set-up and calibration
  • Chemical and micro testing of dairy products e.g. milk, cheese, cultured buttermilk, cream, butter
  • Organoleptic testing of dairy products
  • Shelf-life testing
  • Preparation of culture media, chemical solutions and buffers
  • Liaise with production departments regarding out-of-spec results to ensure any required action is taken in a timely manner
  • Assist with troubleshooting
  • Control Non-conforming product
  • Ensure accurate completion of all required documentation including HACCP traceability paperwork, data input into excel spreadsheets and data input of test results onto Epicor (internal ERP system)

What you will need to succeed as a Lab Technician

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) to include English, Maths & Science
  • Excellent levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Team player - collaborative in approach
  • Whilst previous experience working in a laboratory (especially within the food industry) would be advantageous, it is not essential as full training will be given

What we have to offer:

  • Salary £18-22K (incl. Shift Bonus)

Hours of work: 6am-6pm/6pm-6am and involves working nights one week in four and a Saturday one week in four. The other 3 weeks are days

Week 1: 4 days Monday - Friday
Week 2: 4 days Monday - Friday
Week 3: 4 nights Monday - Friday
Week 4: 2/3 days plus 1/2 days weekend
